WELCOME to Virtual New York City, a web site devoted to the history of New York City and its people. Produced by the New Media Lab at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, VNY offers resources on New York City's past unavailable elsewhere on the Web and, informed by the latest scholarship, new ways to understand that history.

Virtual New York City's inaugural exhibit focuses on the events that altered the course of the city's development. New York, its residents are forever fond of saying, doesn't work. "DISASTER!" is about the worst of times and how they changed New York.
